Additional grapes are vinted using the techniques of barrel fermentation, sur-lies aging and partial malolactic fermentation, which creates an elegant counterpart to the fresh fruit with tones of spicy vanilla and nutmeg. Bogle winemakers have captured these refreshing and ripe notes while allowing them to develop and intensify through stainless steel fermentation. Here is a look at local wineries which took Best of Class followed by all the local medal winners:Ĭhardonnay : $10-$13.99: Bogle Vineyards (2014) Chardonnay grapes grown in Clarksburg are known for their characteristic apple and pear aromas and flavors. Peirano Estate Vineyards took home 4 silver medals and a bronze McCay Cellars took home 10 medals which 3 were gold, 4 were silver, 3 bronze. Klinker Brick scored 8 medal which included 1 gold, 4 silvers, and 2 bronze. Harney Lane took home 2 golds, along with 3 silvers and a bronze. Meanwhile, Carol Shelton Wines scored 16 medals including 2 double golds, 3 golds, 8 silvers, and 2 bronze. Out in Lodi, Michael David Winery scored big with 1 Best of Class, 2 Double Golds and 3 Golds. The Livermore Valley also took home 11 Double Golds. Over the hill in Livermore, they crushed it taking home more than 160 medals which included four “Best of Class” by Caddis, Fenestra, Longevity and Vasco Urbano. Cline Cellars who also uses grapes from Oakley, scored 10 medals with four of those coming from grapes in Contra Costa. Meanwhile, Rock Wall Wine Co, who uses grapes from Oakley, scored a double gold for “Jesse’s Vineyards” Zinfandel and a double gold for its “Super Alamedan”. In Contra Costa, Bloomfield Vineyards represented East Contra Costa well with 5-silver medals while Leer Vineyardstook home a double gold and a silver medal. With more than 7,100 entries in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, local wines from Contra Costa, Clarksburg, Livermore and Lodi held their own taking home hundreds of medals.
